WELLNESS: NEW WEARABLE DEVICES FOR BETTER SLEEP
Thereâs been a notable issue with Americans facing sleep problems. Scientists are exploring technologies to improve sleep through brain wave modulation. Research has shown promise, especially in medical settings when a patient is unconscious or even comatose. A few companies are developing wearable headbands (that use either auditory or electrical stimulation) to help the wearer fall asleep faster, and another company, Lumos, has created a sleep mask that uses timed light flashes to adjust circadian rhythms for jet lag prevention. This new tech aligns well with the growing trend in people using sleep aids on a daily basis to fall & stay asleep.
LIFESTYLE: USING A BODY TOWEL ON YOUR FACE
Dermatologists advise against using the same towel for your face and body, despite this being a common morning routine habit. The reasoning is twofold: facial skin is more sensitive than body skin, and body towels can harbor bacteria, oils, dead skin cells, and residual products that could cause problems when transferred to your face. Bacteria like E. coli from the groin area could cause inflammatory reactions and scarring if transferred to facial skin. It is recommended to use a dedicated face towel, changing it every 1-3 days depending on your skin sensitivity, and washing it in hot water with hypoallergenic detergent.
BEAUTY: AN AT-HOME FACIAL IS THE WAY TO GO
DIY facials can be super effective in maintaining your skinâs longevity & skin barrier. Experts recommend actually giving yourself a facial at least 1x/week. There are 5 key steps: (optionally) steaming your skin, starting with a thorough double cleanse, exfoliating (either physically or chemically), applying a targeted mask based on specific skin concerns, and finishing with a moisturizing facial massage to boost circulation. One main tip is to never tug on dry skin because you can cause premature wrinkles + fine lines.
Originally released in 2011, this is a song thatâll stay in your playlist for years to come. The lyrics go something like:
âMeet me down by the old oak tree
Where you can be you and I will be me
Forget everything that once was said
Dry your eyes and rest your head
Remember a time when we used to smileâ
