WELLNESS: WHAT DO THE HEALTHIEST DIETS HAVE IN COMMON?
We see a new diet take the head seat at the table annually, but the different ones also have things in common, alongside their differences. The Mediterranean diet is at the top of the list for its focus on whole foods, healthy fats, and long-term benefits like reduced cancer and heart disease risks. The DASH diet comes in second which is aimed at lowering blood pressure by limiting sodium intake, and is backed by strong evidence supporting cardiovascular health. Third is the MIND diet, a blend of Mediterranean + DASH to help support your brain health. These 3 diets share a focus on nutritional quality, sustainability, and longevity of organs, rather than weight loss. Fun fact: experts actually say that visible weight (AKA the scale) is quite an irrational indicator of health!
BEAUTY: CAN HAIRLINE SURGERY HELP WITH HAIR LOSS?
Chrissy Teigen recently shared that she had hairline-lowering surgery to deal with her post-partum thinning hair after childbirth. This procedures also called a “forehead reduction” since it moves the hairline forward to create a more balanced facial proportion. But the verdict is in — according to professionals, it does not prevent or stop future hair loss. The surgery also comes with potential follow-up treatments such as laser resurfacing or micro hair transplants! It’s not recommended at all for individuals prone to ongoing hair loss or who genetically have finer thin hair. The pros emphasize that it’s a cosmetic fix—not a cure for hair loss—and those affected should still consult a dermatologist for longer lasting solutions.
BUSINESS: CHASE RESERVE CREDIT CARD FEE INCREASE
Starting June 23, 2025, the Chase Sapphire Reserve got a major refresh—including an increase in its annual fee from $550 to $795, making it one of the priciest travel cards on the market. Alongside the fee hike, Chase is revamping its rewards structure and adding generous perks like an annual $300 dining credit, $500 in hotel credits via The Edit, a $300 StubHub credit, Apple Music and TV+ subscriptions, and enhanced travel rewards. There’s also a new Sapphire Reserve for Business card launching the same day, with similar premium benefits tailored to business owners—like 8x points on Chase Travel, 3x on ad spend, and over $1,500 in annual credits including for ZipRecruiter, DoorDash, Lyft, and Google Workspace. Both cards now include elite IHG status and offer even more perks for big spenders who hit $75,000 or $120,000 annually.
Sofi Tukker’s take on What a Wonderful World gives the classic a dreamy, electronic twist—fusing familiar warmth with their signature pulse. It’s a version that makes you feel like you’re hearing the lyrics for the first time, wrapped in a soundscape that’s both nostalgic and new.

ON LITTLE THINGS: "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." – Robert Brault
The small, everyday moments—a quiet cup of coffee, a shared laugh, a sunny (or rainy) afternoon—often become the most meaningful memories.

CARMEL BY THE SEA
EAT: La Bicyclette is cozy European-style bistro that’s known for fresh, locally sourced ingredients and a warm, inviting ambiance. Think of a slightly upscale home cooked meal, both comforting and satiating. For a two-Michelin-starred spot praised for its exquisite tasting menu and fine-dining finesse, check out Aubergine. They’re pretty much Carmel’s standout dining experience because they’re super innovative and quite uniquely laid out for visitors. They have a daily changing 7-course tasting menu + an impressive 3,700-bottle (1,750 selections) wine cellar!
STAY: A historic oceanfront mansion, recently renovated… get ready for La Playa Hotel. It has old-time charming rooms, daily wine hours, live music, and easy beach access. But be warned, Carmel is gloomy for most of the year. Villa Mara has a different vibe as it’s an adults-only luxury boutique hotel perched on a bluff. It’s got only 16 rooms, frontside ocean views, and a very intimate atmosphere.
DO: Just south of town, there is a breathtaking reserve, Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, which is ideal for scenic walks, wildlife viewing, photography, and even having a picnic. Carmel Art Walk is for the art lover & admirer. It’s a self-guided tour of 20+ local galleries showcasing fine art, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. It’s held every second Saturday of the month (or you can do a casual version anytime).
Fun fact: Clint Eastwood was the mayor from 1986 to 1988 and has been a longtime resident and homeowner. He also owns the historic Mission Ranch Hotel and Restaurant here!
