WEALTH: GEN Z SINKS DEEPER INTO DEBT
Younger folk are dealing with higher credit card debt than previous generations and a lot of this is due to prices rising for essentials such as food and rent. The average credit card balance for people ages 22-24 was $2,834 (in late 2023) & higher debt loads brings forth more delinquencies, a delay in milestones like homeownership, and the need for familial support. With rents soaring over 20% in four years while wages have stayed more stagnant, many young adults are stretching their incomes just to cover housing costs, relying on credit to make ends meet.
LIFESTYLE: BEST PLACES TO LIVE IN THE U.S.
The US News & World Report ranked cities across the US based on the quality of life, education, crime rates, employment opportunities, and housing affordability. This year's top-ranked cities include favorites like Boise, Idaho; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as newcomers like Austin, Texas, and Greenville and Charleston in South Carolina. Naples, Florida, stands out with a low unemployment rate of 3.1%, a community offering diverse dining and a picturesque beachfront setting with white-sand beaches, luxury homes, and an abundance of golf courses. Naples also has the most expensive home for sale in the country, a $295 million compound with lavish amenities.
WELLNESS: HOW BAD ARE ULTRA-PROCESSED FOODS, REALLY?
Consuming more ultraprocessed foods (UPFs) like sodas, instant noodles, and packaged snacks have rapidly increased obesity. Since the ‘90s, studies have associated UPFs with more than just obesity (think heart disease, diabetes, depression and earlier death). In a small trial, it was actually noticed that people ate more calories and gained weight on an ultra-processed diet compared to an unprocessed diet.
