LIFESTYLE: WE’RE SPENDING BILLIONS ON THIS WFH INDULGENCE
Stanford University research shows a rise in online shopping, especially in areas with high rates of remote work. Remote work has lead to an increase in online shopping during work hours. Employees are browsing and make purchases while attending virtual meetings or between tasks. Shopping provides a momentary distraction and a dopamine boost during monotonous workdays. For some, work-from-home shopping feels like a productive break or a way to balance personal tasks with extended work hours.
WEALTH: HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU KEEP IN YOUR CHECKINGS ACCT?
Financial experts generally recommend keeping 1-2 months' worth of living expenses in your checking account as a buffer to avoid overdrafts + cover monthly bills. But any excess cash beyond that should be placed in higher-yielding accounts or towards investments (whether it be real estate or a 401k), rather than letting it sit stagnant. The key is striking a balance between liquidity for short-term needs from your checking account while maximizing returns on surplus funds.
BUSINESS: LULULEMON STOCK IS GOING OUT OF FASHION
Lululemon has gotten to the point of slowed growth and tough competition from other athleisure brands. Competitors like Alo and Vuori are strategically located within a 5-10 mile radius. On the business side, shares for Lululemon have been down by 40%. After all, how many people could want $100 pair of leggings?
ON PEACE: "Guilt lives in the past. Worry lives in the future. Peace lives in the present." - JAMES CLEAR
Guilt often stems from actions or inactions we regret from our past. It keeps us mentally tied to events we can no longer change. And sometimes we’re tied up with anxiety about potential future events or outcomes. It focuses our attention on things that haven't happened yet and may never occur. Therefore, peace is what we can have control of right now.
